Paestum Tour Description

Originally, the town of Poseidonia was built by colonists from Greece all the way back in 600BC. The Roman Empire later took control of the land and re-named it Paestum, and what we are left with today are some of the best examples and most extensive remains of Doric Greek architecture in all the world.
There are not many places in the world that have as rich and storied a history as Paestum, and your private guide will delight in explaining the role Paestum played over the centuries.
Tour The Ancient Temples of Paestum
Your guide will walk with you through the remains of the ancient city as you arrive at the dramatic ancient temples. Widely regarded as some of the finest archaeological monuments in the world, you will first be guided through the temple of Athena (you will also find out why it was originally mistitled!). Your guide will then take you to the oldest of the temples at the site, the Temple of Hera.
The Painted Tombs of Paestum

The next part of the tour will take place roughly a kilometer outside the city walls as your guide takes you to the necropolis, which houses extraordinary painted tombs that were only discovered in the 1960s but contain painted scenes dating back to the 4th Century BC.
Look out in particular for the only example of Greek figurative painting hailing from the Orientalizing, Archaic, and Classical periods to have survived in its entirety.
A private tour ensures that you can spend more time with the works that you find the most inspiring and beautiful, and you and your family are welcome to ask as many questions as you wish.
